Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke was born on February 20, 1972, in Makurdi, Benue State, into the family of Air Warrant Officer Sylvester and Mrs. Ngozi Aneke. He is from the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. Air Vice Marshal Aneke attended Army Children School New Cantonment ‘A’ NDA Kaduna from 1976 to 1982, where he received his first school leaving certificate. He went to Government College Kaduna from 1982 to 1987, where he earned his West African School Certificate.
When Air Vice Marshal Aneke joined the 40th Regular Course at the Nigerian Defence Academy on September 10, 1988, he started his early career. As a result, on September 10, 1993, he received his pilot officer commission in the Nigerian Air Force. He is a graduate of the University of Calabar with a Bachelor of Science (Bsc) in Physics, Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria with a Master of International Affairs and Diplomacy, the University of Abuja with a Master of Political Economy and Developmental Studies, and the Air War College of the United States Air Force Air University Montgomery, Alabama, with a Master of Strategic Studies.
Over the course of his career in the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Aneke has taken a number of military courses. The Aeromechanical Engineering certificate from the Engineering School Technical Training Group (now the Air Force Institute of Technology) is one of these. 301 Flying Training School provided Ab-initia Flying Training, and 401 FTS currently offers Basic Flying Training. He attended the prestigious Armed Forces Command and Staff College, where he obtained certificates for the Junior and Senior Staff Courses, respectively. Air Vice Marshal Aneke attended the United States Air Force Air University in Montgomery, Alabama, where he obtained his master’s in strategic studies at the US Air War College.
Air Vice Marshal Aneke has had numerous appointments in the Nigerian Air Force. Some of these appointments include: Admin officer at Aircraft Overhaul Centre Aircraft Maintenance Depot Ikeja, admin officer and group logistics officer at 301 Flying Training School NAF Base Kaduna. Commanding Officer Base Services Wing Air Maritime Group Benin, Staff Officer United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Congo (MONUC) Kishasha. Fleet Training Officer, Wing Chief Admin and Wing Chief Operations all at the Presidential Air Fleet Abuja, Group Operations Officer and later Commander 307 Executive Air Lift Group Abuja, Deputy Director Evaluation (Air) Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Command Evaluation Officer Air Training Command Kaduna, Command Operations Officer and Evaluation Officer Tactical Air Training Command Makurdi, Chief of Staff Air Training Command Kaduna, Command Operations Officer Tactical Air Command Makurdi, Director of Safety Headquarters Nigerian Air Force Abuja, Deputy Director Operations Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Director of Policy Headquarters Nigerian Air Force and he is currently the Deputy Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy (Africa’s Foremost Military University) Kaduna.
Type-rated Air Vice Marshal Aneke has flown the following aircraft: the Hawker-4000, the Gulfstream V, the Gulf Stream 550, the Dornier-228, the Citation-500, the Falcon 900, and the Air Beetle-18 and its extended version. He has 4,359 total flying hours and an Advance Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL). Among his accolades and medals are GSS, DSS, GSM, FCM, Psc, USAFWC, MSc, MIAD, and MPEDS.
Three boys, Chukwuebuka Kelvin Aneke, IfeanyiChukwu Brian Aneke, and Uchechukwu Jason Aneke, are the product of Air Vice Marshal Aneke’s happy marriage to Mrs. Ngozi Enderline Aneke. Mr. Aneke views flying the skies more as a pastime than a job.
