Dr Simon Viashima Akaayar promoted to Prof.
The University of Lagos has elevated Dr Simon Viashima Akaayar to the position of professor.
On Thursday, July 23, 2026, the professor announced the news on his Facebook page.
He wrote, “The Governing Council of the University of Lagos has officially approved my promotion to the rank of PROFESSOR in the Department of Commercial and Industrial Law, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, Nigeria, effective 1st October 2025.
My sincere appreciation goes first to God Almighty, from whom all promotions cometh. I am also so grateful to the University of Lagos and Faculty of Law family for finding me worthy of the rank of professor.”
The new sheriff didn’t stop there; he went further to thank numerous individuals who have happened to shape him right from his formidable years. He especially, and opening, mentioned some great sons of Benue who over the years have contributed immensely to his growth and professional development. He thanked people like the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, His Excellency, Sen. George Akume CON, whom he called ‘Leader and Mentor’. and His Excellency, Dr Pius Akutah Gbongbon, Esq, MON, Ph.D. The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, for all their support and encouragement.
