Chief Dan Osi Orbih’s passing has been lamented by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who called the late politician a friend and brother for over 40 years.
In a condolence statement, Oshiomhole expressed “profound sadness and a deep sense of personal loss” upon learning of Orbih’s passing.
Oshiomhole described Orbih, a distinguished son of the MCK Orbih family of the Ogbona Community in the Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, as a respectable politician, successful businessman, and devoted Catholic Christian.
He claimed that the late Orbih’s life demonstrated a sincere dedication to his community, religion, and the progress of his people.
According to Oshiomhole, Orbih made significant contributions to Afenmailand’s growth through his business ventures, political involvement, and wide-ranging personal connections.
“He was a man who consistently used his resources, influence, and goodwill in ways that promoted progress and strengthened the bonds within our communities because he believed in the potential of his people,” he said.
The former governor of Edo State also characterised Orbih as a man of integrity who upheld his beliefs while always being prepared to extend a hand of friendship across political differences for the good of his people.
“For me, however, this loss is deeply personal. I have lost a brother and friend of more than four decades,” Oshiomhole said.
He recalled their years of friendship, political engagements, laughter and reflection, noting that they had only recently sat together with other friends to reminisce about the “good old days” and their journey over the years.
“Little did I know that perhaps one of our last meetings was already upon us. That memory has now assumed a significance I could never have imagined,” he added. Oshiomhole said Orbih had left behind a legacy that transcended material possessions, including a good name, cherished relationships and a record of service to his people.
“Dan came, he saw, he gave his best, and he has departed. What he leaves behind is more enduring than material possessions: a good name, cherished relationships and a legacy of service and contribution that will remain in the memories of those whose lives he touched,” he said.
The senator expressed condolences to Orbih’s wife, Florence, his children, the MCK Orbih family of Ogbona, friends, associates and political colleagues, as well as the people of Edo State.
He prayed that Almighty God would comfort the bereaved family, strengthen all those mourning the deceased and grant Orbih eternal rest.
